Immigration Officers To Sport Berets In New Uniform Rollout

The Immigration Department has introduced berets as part of its official uniform for the first time.

The new navy-blue headgear, along with an updated uniform color, was unveiled on Friday during the graduation ceremony for 286 new immigration officers at the Kenya School of Government in Baringo.

The event was led by Immigration Principal Secretary Julius Bitok, celebrating the officers’ completion of a five-week basic induction course sponsored by the Ministry of Interior.

The addition of the navy-blue berets and uniforms aims to enhance visibility and promote professionalism among the staff.

Previously, officers wore turtle green uniforms consisting of trousers and blazers.

The new uniforms will also include epaulettes displaying each officer’s rank.

During the ceremony, Bitok emphasized the training’s purpose: to equip officers with essential skills needed to excel in their roles and uphold public service values.

Immigration Director General Evalyn Cheluget highlighted that the course fosters a strong sense of patriotism and prepares officers to effectively represent the department’s mission and values.

She urged the new officers to embrace professionalism in their public service careers.

These newly recruited officers will be deployed across nine immigration processing centers nationwide, including border points and airports, to improve passport processing services.

Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, which is currently facing staffing shortages, will receive a significant number of these new officers to enhance its operations.
