Interior Minister Warns Against Land Fraud And Illicit Liquor, Orders Police Transfers


Interior Minister Kithure Kindiki has issued a stern warning to land officers involved in fraudulent activities in Nakuru County, emphasizing that they will face legal consequences.

He emphasized the seriousness of land disputes and encroachment issues and vowed to prosecute those compromising the integrity of land documents.

Kindiki stated, “Officers in the Ministry of Lands, Survey, and other public officers aiding forgery are criminals like any other criminals in the country and we are going to be very merciless with them.”

Regarding a specific case involving the Nakuru War Memorial Hospital, Kindiki highlighted the fraudulent acquisition of a lease extension, indicating ongoing legal proceedings in the Nakuru Environment and Lands court.

In addition to addressing land issues, Kindiki also emphasized the need to combat illicit liquor sales.

He stressed the responsibility of law enforcement agencies in this regard and urged politicians to allow them the space to carry out their duties effectively.

Public officers with conflicting interests regarding the fight against illicit substances were warned to either cease their businesses or leave public service.

Kindiki emphasized the government’s determination to dismantle the infrastructure supporting drug trafficking and consumption, which poses a threat to national security.

To strengthen law enforcement efforts, Kindiki announced the mandatory transfer of over 42,500 police officers who have overstayed in their current stations.

This measure aims to prevent any compromise in law enforcement activities.

During his visit to Nakuru County, Kindiki commended the efforts of the security team led by County Commissioner Loyford Kibaara and assured the public of decisive action against organized criminal gangs disrupting peace in the region.

He acknowledged the challenges posed by gangs like Confirm, TZ, Mauki, and Mungiki, expressing confidence in County Commander Samuel Ndanyi’s strategies to neutralize them.

Kindiki reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing land fraud and illicit activities, emphasizing the prosecution of offenders and the proactive measures being taken to ensure law enforcement effectiveness in Nakuru County and beyond.
