Kenyan Actor Manasseh Nyagah Discusses Challenges In South African Career Pursuit

Kenyan actor Manasseh Nyagah has opened up about the challenges he has encountered since moving to South Africa to pursue career opportunities.

Nyagah, known for his roles in Netflix’s ‘Uradi’ and Showmax’s ‘Famous’, shared that transitioning into South Africa’s acting scene has been notably different compared to Kenya.

“In South Africa, the industry operates under a more structured and strict framework,” Nyagah explained. “Unlike Kenya, where spontaneity and showing up at auditions can sometimes lead to success.”

Nyagah emphasized the crucial role of securing representation in South Africa.

“Having an agent or manager is essential to even access auditions,” he noted, highlighting this as a significant initial challenge.

The actor recounted facing rejections due to his nationality.

“Many agencies were clear about their policies of not representing internationals like me,” Nyagah recalled.

Despite these setbacks, he persevered until he found representation, which ultimately opened doors for him in the competitive South African industry.

Despite the hurdles, Nyagah expressed admiration for South Africa’s dynamic entertainment sector, citing it as a valuable environment for learning and growth.

He clarified that his decision to move wasn’t to distance himself from Kenya but to expand his horizons while continuing to contribute to projects in both countries.

“For the foreseeable future, I envision myself balancing my career between Kenya and South Africa,” Nyagah affirmed.

“Both countries offer unique opportunities, and I am grateful for the chance to develop as an actor in diverse settings.”

Nyagah’s candid reflections provide insight into the complexities actors face when navigating different entertainment industries, underscoring the determination and adaptability required to thrive on an international scale.
