Kericho Assembly Seeks Protection For Witness Alleging Sexual Exploitation Against Governor

The Kericho County Assembly has formally requested the Senate to ensure the protection of a witness who has alleged sexual abuse by Governor Eric Mutai.

Through their lawyer, Elias Mutuma, the assembly has submitted a letter to the Senate Speaker, seeking to keep the witness’s identity confidential and to allow her to testify privately.

“You will note from the charges presented that one of our witnesses is a young woman who will come forward to testify about instances of sexual exploitation,” Mutuma stated.

He emphasized the importance of safeguarding the witness’s identity, saying, “We have applied for measures to ensure this witness is protected from public exposure.”

Mutuma also expressed the assembly’s willingness to facilitate a meeting between the witness, the governor, and his legal team prior to her testimony.

“We can arrange for the council and the governor to meet the witness before her testimony so they can become acquainted with her identity,” he mentioned.

The assembly’s request underscores the sensitivity of the case and the need to balance the interests of justice with the protection of vulnerable individuals involved in the proceedings.
