A 30-year-old man was electrocuted as he tried to illegally connect power to his house in Kiambu slums, Nairobi.

Locals said the victim Samuel Ogunda, 30 was found dead with burn injuries on both hands, both thighs, and chest on Saturday.

It was established he had tried to connect power from a high voltage cable causing the death.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.

Police and Kenya Power and Lighting officials say most electrocution is caused by illegal power connections.

The incidents happen in homes and outside.

There is a campaign to address the issue of illegal connections, officials say.

Up to three cases are reported in a week in the city alone.
