Namibia’s President Hage Geingob is set to embark on a journey to the United States on Wednesday for cancer treatment, according to an announcement from the presidency.
The 82-year-old head of state, who recently underwent a routine medical check-up, was diagnosed with cancer, although specific details about the type and severity were not disclosed by his office.
In response to the diagnosis, President Geingob has opted to undergo innovative therapy in Los Angeles, California.

The statement from the presidency, released on Wednesday, highlighted that the president has accepted an offer from scientists and medical professionals in Los Angeles to address the cancerous cells.
It is worth noting that this isn’t the first time President Geingob has faced a battle with cancer.
Back in 2014, during his tenure as prime minister, he publicly announced that he had successfully overcome prostate cancer. Subsequently, he assumed the role of president in the following year.
During Geingob’s absence, Vice President Nangolo Mumba will step in to handle presidential duties until the president’s anticipated return on February 2.
The timing of this development is critical for Namibia, as the country is scheduled to conduct both presidential and parliamentary elections after 2024.
The president’s decision to seek treatment abroad underscores the importance of addressing health concerns promptly, and the collaboration with experts in Los Angeles reflects a commitment to exploring innovative approaches to managing the medical condition.
