The National Assembly has reconvened for the third part of its third session on September 17, resuming work after an extended recess.
Members of Parliament are set to address a range of bills and review committee reports related to appointments for various government boards and departments.
A key focus of the session will be discussing the report from the joint parliamentary committee on the appointment of Mr. Douglas Kanja as the new Inspector General of Police.
Kanja, who was appointed by President Dr. William Ruto, replaces Japheth Koome, who resigned amid protests by Gen Z over the 2024/25 financial bill.
In addition, MPs will review the report concerning the appointment of the Director General of the Competition Authority.
The session will also feature the second reading of several important bills, including the Coffee Bill 2023, which aims to regulate the coffee industry, promote fair trade, and ensure sustainable development.
Other bills to be discussed are the Equalization Fund (Administration) Bill (2023) and the Mung Beans Bill 2022.
Additionally, Parliament will consider the County Governments Surplus Supply Bill (2024),
which sets conditions for transferring allocations from national revenue and development partners to county governments for the 2024/25 financial year.
The sessions will also address nominations for various commissions, including the Salaries and Remuneration Commission (SRC),
the National Gender and Equality Commission, and the Commission on Administrative Justice.
