Safaricom has introduced a significant update to its M-Pesa service by lowering the minimum amount for airtime purchases from Sh5 to just Sh1.
This change, announced on Monday, means users can now buy airtime in denominations as small as Sh1, making it more accessible for users with minimal balances.
The new policy has already been implemented, and users can now take advantage of this lower threshold for airtime purchases.
In addition to this, Safaricom has rolled out another notable update concerning reverse calls.
Starting soon, there will be a Sh0.50 charge for reverse calls made more than twice a day.
Initially, reverse calls will remain free for the first two requests each day.
Any further reverse call requests within the same day will incur this fee.
This change is aimed at curbing the misuse of the reverse call service, as Safaricom observed that some users were opting for reverse calls even when they had sufficient airtime available.
The charge is intended to discourage excessive use of the service and ensure it is utilized more appropriately.
Furthermore, Safaricom has clarified that the reverse call fee will only apply to calls made within the Safaricom network.
Calls to or from other networks will not be affected by this new charge.
This measure is part of Safaricom’s broader strategy to manage network resources efficiently and ensure fair use of its services.
The company has communicated these updates through direct messages to users and has updated its website and customer support channels to address any queries related to the changes.
