NCIC Summons MP Peter Kaluma Over Controversial Homa Bay Remarks

Homa Bay Town MP Peter Kaluma has been summoned by the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) to record a statement over remarks he allegedly made during a gathering in Homa Bay.

In a letter dated August 17, the commission directed the legislator to appear before its offices at Britam Towers in Nairobi on August 19 at 10:00 a.m. to assist with ongoing investigations.

The NCIC cautioned that failure to comply with the summons could result in legal action, including the issuance of an arrest warrant or the commencement of criminal and contempt proceedings.

Kaluma’s remarks attracted public attention after a video circulated online showing him allegedly warning individuals linked to the opposition against working against his political camp. He also appeared to issue warnings to business owners, particularly hoteliers, accused of hosting opposition figures in Homa Bay.

In the footage, the MP reaffirmed that Homa Bay remains an ODM stronghold while expressing support for President William Ruto completing two terms in office. He further appeared to caution against those advocating for a one-term presidency.

The comments sparked criticism from several leaders, including Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina, who called for Kaluma’s arrest and prosecution. Maina accused authorities of applying double standards, arguing that other politicians have previously faced swift action over similar statements.

She urged both the NCIC and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take decisive action, maintaining that the MP should already have been arraigned in court over the remarks.
