Pastor Dorcas Rigathi has responded with a message of faith and gratitude after the High Court upheld the impeachment of her husband, former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua.
Her remarks came shortly after a three-judge bench sitting at the Milimani Law Courts affirmed Parliament’s decision to remove Gachagua from office, paving the way for Deputy President Kithure Kindiki to continue serving in the role.
Taking to social media following the ruling, Dorcas thanked supporters who had stood by the family in prayer and maintained that the outcome would ultimately serve a greater purpose.
“God is still in control. Give thanks to the Lord. We thank every one of you who has stood with us in prayer. Nothing is lost. We bless God for this judgment,” she wrote.
The former second lady also referenced Romans 8:28 and Jeremiah 29:11, scriptures that emphasise faith in God’s plan and the belief that challenges can eventually produce positive outcomes.
Despite the legal setback, Dorcas’ message reflected confidence and hope, signalling that the family remains steadfast in its faith.
Why the Court Upheld the Impeachment
In its ruling, the High Court found that the impeachment process conducted by both the National Assembly and Senate was constitutional and lawful.
The judges determined that while some concerns had been raised about the proceedings, the Constitution does not allow courts to reverse an impeachment once a new deputy president has been lawfully appointed.
The bench dismissed claims of bias, inadequate public participation, procedural irregularities and constitutional violations, finding that Parliament had provided sufficient opportunities for public input and that lawmakers’ political views did not amount to unlawful prejudice.

The court also ruled that the Senate was not required to carry out a separate public participation process because its role in impeachment proceedings is adjudicative rather than legislative.
Additionally, the judges upheld the appointment of Kindiki as deputy president, concluding that both Parliament and the president acted within the law.
Why Gachagua Was Awarded KSh 50 Million
Although the court upheld the impeachment, it agreed with Gachagua on one key issue, finding that his right to a fair hearing had been violated during the Senate proceedings.
However, the judges held that the violation was insufficient to invalidate the impeachment, arguing that reversing the process after a new deputy president had assumed office would trigger a constitutional crisis.
Instead, the court awarded Gachagua KSh 50 million in compensation for the breach of his constitutional rights.
