Pilot Escapes Unhurt After Aircraft Crash Lands In Maasai Mara

A light aircraft crash-landed in a conservancy near Maasai Mara leaving it badly damaged and the pilot unhurt.

The pilot identified as Nick Tirent told police he was flying his Kitfox registration 5YHMC from Mara North to Keekorock tourist hotel when it developed mechanical problems.

The incident happened on May 5 at about midday.

The aircraft engine failed which forced the pilot to crash land at Naboisho Conservancy near Asilia base camp.

As a result, the aircraft was badly damaged but the pilot escaped unhurt, police and witnesses said.

The plane was later towed out of the place as the pilot was taken to hospital for necessary checks.

Officials said they are investigating the incident.

Such accidents involving light aircraft are common in the area.
