In a recent police operation in the Kabiria area of Nairobi, officers recovered three homemade pistols from the residence of a suspect.
The operation unfolded on Thursday evening when a patrol team noticed a motorcycle making an illegal turn in the Dagoretti Corner area and decided to pursue it.
Upon stopping the motorcycle, the officers requested the pillion passenger to dismount for questioning.
During the investigation, police discovered a toy pistol in the possession of the motorcycle rider.
The rider then led the officers to his home, where they found three homemade firearms.
In addition to the pistols, authorities uncovered an axe, a hacksaw, and a police beret, which they believe the suspect may have been using to impersonate law enforcement officials.
Nairobi police chief Adamson Bungei noted that the homemade firearms are capable of firing deadly bullets.
“The suspect is currently under investigation to determine his activities and associates,” Bungei stated.
He also highlighted the rise in armed robbery cases in the region and emphasized that police operations are underway to combat this trend.
To bolster security efforts, Bungei reported an increase in police personnel deployed to the area, resulting in several arrests.
The police chief indicated that the focus is on motorcycle riders who may be involved in criminal activities.
“This is an intelligence-led operation that is ongoing, and we are making significant progress,” Bungei added, assuring the public of continued efforts to enhance safety in the community.
