Police have recently made significant drug seizures along key transport routes in Kenya.

On the Migori-Sirare highway, officers confiscated 73.6 kg of marijuana, valued at Sh2.2 million.

According to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations ( DCI), the drugs were discovered when a suspect on a motorcycle was intercepted carrying two bags of the narcotics.

However, the trafficker managed to escape, leaving behind the drugs and the motorcycle.

In a separate operation on the Nambale-Busia road, police seized 350 rolls of bhang weighing 22 kg, estimated to be worth Sh660,000.

The suspect, George Willis Obua, 20, was apprehended at a multi-agency roadblock while driving an Isuzu Pick-Up truck with registration number KBM 098P.

The DCI highlighted these recent actions as part of their ongoing efforts to combat narcotics trafficking across the country.

Over the weekend, police officers from the Anti-Narcotics Unit (ANU) and the Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) made another notable arrest on the Mai Mahiu-Nairobi road.

The suspect, John Otero Mochoge, was caught with 19 packages of cannabis after a high-speed chase that ended when his vehicle became stuck in a ditch.

Additionally, in Busia, Bertha Anyango Wandera, 29, was arrested at the main bus stage.

Wandera was found with a bale of bhang wrapped in white cellophane tape, weighing 17.15 kilograms and valued at approximately Sh514,500.

She was caught while attempting to board a public service vehicle bound for Nairobi.

All suspects will be presented in court today, and the seized drugs and vehicles are being retained as evidence.

The DCI reaffirmed its commitment to fighting drug trafficking and urged the public to avoid involvement in the illegal drug trade, warning that those caught will face severe legal consequences.
