President William Ruto is inviting Chinese investors to explore opportunities in Kenya, particularly in the energy, water, and housing sectors.

Kenya welcomes foreign investors to help add value to its abundant natural resources in these areas.

During his visit to China’s Engineering Corporation Limited in Beijing, President Ruto highlighted the potential in Kenya, saying, “We have many opportunities in our country that you can explore especially in the areas of energy, water, and housing.”

The visit led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Kenyan Ministry of Energy and Petroleum and Energy China.

This agreement aims to enhance the flexibility and reliability of the electrical power system and modernize power generation, transmission, distribution, and substations.

It also emphasizes renewable energy utilization and digitalization for efficient management of power systems and plants.

The MoU was signed by Energy PS Alex Wachira for Kenya and Lyu Zexiang for China Energy International Group.

Chairman Song Hailiang expressed their readiness to collaborate with Kenya on projects to improve the lives of Kenyan citizens.

Simultaneously, Kenya signed another MoU with Huawei, a telecommunications company, to promote digital transformation.

This agreement focuses on developing Kenya’s ICT infrastructure and digitizing various sectors such as transportation, e-government, education, and digital energy.

These efforts align with Kenya’s Digital Superhighway and Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda.

The MoU was signed by the Principal Secretary of the State Department of ICT and the Digital Economy of Kenya, Eng John Tanui, his Foreign Affairs counterpart Korir Sing’oei, and Gao Fei, CEO of Huawei Kenya.

The partnership also includes a commitment to enhance digital skills and capacity building in Kenya.

During the signing ceremony, President Ruto emphasized the importance of creating a green, digital, and creative economy in Kenya.

He commended Huawei for its dedication to accelerating digital inclusion, enabling broader access to online platforms and services through innovative technologies.

President Ruto acknowledged that Huawei and Safaricom, among others, have played a significant role in helping the Kenyan government move 13,000 services to digital platforms.

This technological progress has streamlined government services, making them more accessible to Kenyan citizens.

Chairman of Huawei’s Board of Directors, Dr. Liang Hua, expressed their willingness to collaborate closely with the Kenyan government to further develop the digital and creative economy in Kenya.
