Prime CS Mudavadi Rallying Support For Raila’s AUC Bid Ahead Of Tuesday Launch


Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi ramped up efforts on Monday, August 26, 2024, to support Raila Odinga’s bid for the chairmanship of the African Union Commission.

Mudavadi, attending the Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD-9) ministerial meeting in Japan.

Using the occasion to advocate for Odinga’s candidacy, which President William Ruto is expected to officially announce on Tuesday, August 27, 2024.

During the TICAD-9 conference, Mudavadi engaged with several Foreign Affairs Ministers from the African Union member states, out of the 25 present.

He emphasized the significance of President Ruto’s upcoming announcement, highlighting that it will introduce Raila Odinga.

As Kenya’s official candidate for the AUC chairmanship to both the African continent and the international community.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that a specialized team has been assembled, combining experts with Odinga’s campaign staff, to maximize his chances of securing the influential role.

This team will manage Odinga’s communications, coordinate media interactions with global reach, and oversee public debates with other candidates.

Mudavadi indicated that the official launch of Odinga’s candidacy will mark a crucial escalation in the campaign efforts.

“The official announcement will significantly boost our campaign activities across Africa,” Mudavadi said in Tokyo.

 “Given the international scope of this campaign, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under my leadership, will play a central role in driving this effort forward.”

The intensified campaign aims to leverage both local and international platforms to support Odinga’s bid, reflecting the Kenyan government’s strategic focus on his candidacy for the AUC chairmanship.
