Today, the sentencing of the six individuals convicted for the murder of former Juja Member of Parliament George Thuo is scheduled to take place.
The convicted individuals are Paul Wanaina Boiyo (alias Sheki), Christopher Lumbazio Andika (alias Lumba), Andrew Karanja Wainaina, Samuel Kuria Ngungi (alias Visi), Esther Ndinda Mulinge, and Ruth Watahi Irungu (alias Atlanta).
The Milimani High Court, earlier this year in April, found the six guilty of jointly causing the death of George Thuo by poisoning him at Club Porkies in Kiambu County back in 2013.
It was determined that they had laced his drink with cyhalothrine pesticide, leading to his demise.
During the proceedings on May 28, the prosecution urged the court to impose the maximum possible sentences on the convicts.
They argued against leniency, pointing out that the defendants had shown no remorse for their actions during the trial.
Roseline Korir, the widow of the deceased, testified in court, stating that George Thuo had been in good health prior to the fatal meeting with the convicted individuals.
According to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), Roseline Korir emphasized that her husband’s death was unexpected and occurred while he was in the company of the defendants.
The sentencing marks the culmination of a legal process that has spanned years since Thuo’s tragic death.
The case has been closely followed by the public and has underscored concerns over the prevalence of crime and justice in the country.
The Milimani High Court is expected to consider the gravity of the crime and the arguments presented by both the prosecution and defense before delivering the sentences later today.
This event represents a significant moment for justice in Kenya, as the court’s decision will not only bring closure to the family and friends of George Thuo but also serve as a deterrent against similar criminal acts in the future.
