In Ngurubani, Mwea, Kirinyaga, a distressing event took place on Wednesday night when a stepmother threw a seven-year-old boy into the Thiba River.
Faith Wanjiru, an elder from Soweto village, described how the suspect brought the boy to the Thiba River bridge, held his hand, and then tossed him into the water before fleeing the scene.
Witness John Kinyua reported that residents who saw the incident unfold struggled to rescue the boy, who cried out for help, believing he was going with his stepmother to have dinner at a nearby hotel.
Dennis Musili, the boy’s father, was contacted by residents and arrived promptly.
He expressed shock and disbelief at what had happened, questioning why his son’s stepmother would do such a thing.
Musili remarried two years ago after separating from his wife.
He mentioned that his son is in Grade 2 and reassured the community that the boy is now safe and receiving treatment at a local private hospital.
