Suspected Thugs Break Into Car, Steal Sh120,000 In Bondo Town


Police are investigating an incident where a motorist lost Sh120,000 from his car in Bondo Town moments after he had left a bank.

The victim said he withdrew Sh56,000 from his KCB account in the area on Monday afternoon.

He told police he had another Sh64,000 in his car which he intended to pay his workers.

He parked his car outside a vegetable store for shopping.

He went to the store and on coming back he found the money with his personal items missing.

Police were called to the scene and announced they were investigating the incident.

Such incidents have been on the rise in the area amid police efforts to address the trend.

Investigations show they happen after some of the thieves hang around in banking halls to monitor transactions before they strike.

Police are investigating the incidents.

In Mandera Town, a money handler was arrested over claims of defrauding his employer of Sh2.6 million.

The man has been handling Mpesa shops and a foreign exchange bureau.

Police said preliminary findings show he sent part of the money to online fraudsters purporting to be dealing with forex trade.

In Bondo, a bank manager was defrauded of Sh2 million by a gang that lied to him they could double her money.

Police said the gang first took Sh650,000 and doubled the money handing the same to her.

They then demanded more for the said doubling when they grabbed the money and escaped in a car.

They robbed her of Sh2 million in total, police said, adding they were pursuing the gang.

In Kutulo, Mandera County, a gang ambushed a lorry and robbed the occupants of their valuables.

Police and the victims said the gang which wore military jungle uniforms used boulders to block the road before embarking on their mission.

They also hit and injured the lorry driver in the eyes before escaping. Police said they were pursuing the gang.
