Suspected Trafficker Nabbed With 100Kgs of Marijuana in Nakuru County

In Nakuru County, a suspected drug trafficker was apprehended on Thursday with around 100 kilograms of marijuana.

The arrest was made by undercover detectives at a bus terminus in Nakuru-East Sub-County following a tip-off from vigilant members of the public.

Mohammed Wako, the Nakuru East Sub-County Police Commander, commended the efforts of the undercover team, stating, “Our undercover team, while on routine duties, received a tip-off from a good Samaritan and successfully intercepted this consignment of cannabis sativa.”

Authorities suspect that the seized drug shipment was intended for distribution within Nakuru City.

Wako noted, “Our belief is that the consignment was meant for Nakuru, although the suspect claims it was destined for Nairobi.

Nevertheless, the suspect was apprehended within our jurisdiction before the contraband could reach the local market.”

Following the arrest, samples of the confiscated marijuana will be forwarded to a government chemist for analysis.

Wako explained, “We encounter challenges in court where we are required to confirm that seized contraband like this is indeed cannabis sativa. Obtaining reports from the government chemist can be time-consuming.”

The suspect, whose identity was not disclosed, remains in police custody pending arraignment.

Authorities are committed to ensuring that individuals involved in illegal drug trafficking are brought to justice and that contraband is intercepted before it reaches the streets.
