Former President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived in Mekelle, the capital of the Tigray region to attend the official launch of the Joint Monitoring and Verification Mechanism that has been established by the Cessation of Hostilities Agreement.
He was accompanied by the Executive Secretary of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), Workneh Gebeyehu among other officials when they arrived on December 29.
They have reaffirmed IGAD’s commitment to supporting the implementation of the peace agreement signed between the federal government of Ethiopia and TPLF.
This came as senior commanders of the Ethiopian National Defence Forces and TPLF are meeting in Nairobi, Kenya for more peace talks days after those heart-wrenching pictures of family reunifications happening in Tigray and restoration of services in the region after more than two years.
Following the peace agreement, it is known that infrastructures are being repaired and public institutions resumed service partially in some areas of the region.
To fully resume services of institutions and repair infrastructures in all areas of the region, the heads of different federal government institutions were present in Mekele Monday and discussed with the residents of Mekele city.
