The Trans Nzoia County Government has initiated a program to distribute free maize seeds aimed at bolstering agricultural production.
Governor George Natembeya, during the launch of the initiative named ‘Fukuza Njaa Initiative’ on Wednesday, emphasized its significance in augmenting food security within the region.
He stated, “This move is among the many strategies our Government has implemented to enhance food security.”

Under the umbrella of the ‘Fukuza Njaa Initiative’, Natembeya outlined that over 103,000 small-scale farmers are set to benefit.
He disclosed that a budget of Sh100 million has been allocated for this distribution exercise.
Natembeya stressed the importance of adopting optimal agricultural techniques to maximize yields, citing timing as a crucial factor.
Additionally, he pledged collaboration with Members of the County Assembly to facilitate increased distribution of fertilizers.
In attendance at the launch, Martin Jamanoor, the local MCA, hailed the ‘Fukuza Njaa Initiative’ as a timely intervention addressing food security concerns.
He affirmed, “This program has arrived at a crucial moment and will greatly benefit our farmers.
We commit to working closely with the Governor to ensure its success.”
Also present at the event were County Secretary Truphosa Amere, along with County Executive Committee Members Phanice Khatundi (Agriculture), Chanelle Kittony (Sports), and Dr. Pepela Wanjala (Health and Sanitation).
