Police are searching for a suspect accused of fatally stabbing a 26-year-old kiosk operator following a dispute over payment for a cup of tea in Gatundu North, Kiambu County.
The victim, Emmanuel Bwayo, was attacked at his kiosk at Gatukuyu Shopping Centre on Sunday morning.
According to police, the suspect had ordered tea at the kiosk but allegedly refused to pay for it, sparking a heated argument with the businessman.
Investigators said Bwayo, who operated a kiosk selling tea, coffee and snacks, repeatedly asked the man to leave the premises. However, the suspect allegedly became confrontational and, in the course of the dispute, drew a knife and stabbed the victim on the left side of the neck.
The injured man was rushed to Igegania Level 4 Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.
Police officers visited and processed the scene as investigations commenced.
Police said the suspect fled immediately after the attack and a manhunt has been launched to trace and arrest him.
The body of the deceased was moved to General Kago Funeral Home awaiting a postmortem examination.
The incident underscores the deadly consequences that can arise from seemingly minor disputes, with detectives continuing efforts to establish the full circumstances surrounding the killing and bring the suspect to justice.
And police in Kirinyaga County launched investigations into the killing of a 36-year-old woman who succumbed to injuries after being assaulted by an unknown assailant inside her house.
The victim, identified as Sarafina Wanja, died while undergoing treatment at Karira Mission Hospital, where she had been admitted following the attack.
Police officers visited the hospital and established that the deceased had been taken there on Saturday after she was assaulted inside her house by an unknown person.
Investigators said the victim sustained serious head injuries during the attack and later died while receiving treatment.
The scene of the crime was visited, documented and processed by detectives as investigations got underway.
Police said efforts to establish the identity of the attacker and the motive behind the assault are ongoing.
The body was moved to the mortuary at Karira Mission Hospital awaiting a postmortem examination as detectives continue pursuing leads in the case, which remains under investigation.
