Catholic Church leader Archbishop Martin Kivuva urged the Government to provide Urgent Solution for Doctors’ Strike.


Religious leaders of Catholic Church have called on the Government to intervene and end the ongoing doctors’ strike crisis.

The chairman of the council of Bishops of Kenya, Archbishop Martin Kivuva, has pointed out that poor Kenyans are the ones who continue to suffer due to the lack of essential medical services, while the government and doctors are holding on to their positions of authoritarianism.

Speaking at the episcopate inauguration of assistant Bishops elected Simon Peter Kamomoe and Wallance Ng’ang’a, for the diocese of Nairobi held at st.mary’s Msongari,Kivuva asked both sides to be concerned on Kenyans Health first as they have that tension.

In addition, the Archbishop took the opportunity to speak the truth and criticize the government for turning a blind eye to the ongoing crisis in public hospitals that is causing a strike by doctors, saying that the government should be responsible for its people and ensure that all health services are easily available.

At the same time former president Uhuru Kenyatta was among the guests who attended the service, together with Speaker of National Assembly Moses Wetang’ula and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja.

In one voice, the leaders called on the church to continue raising their voice of arguments in the country and added that they have a moral obligation to the community to discuss issues that concern the citizen.

On other hand, Governor Sakaja added that the Catholic Church’s contribution to the country is available and it has help the country at large. Schools, hospitals, Universities, leadership… “when the church speaks, we listen.”

Bishop Ng’ang’a whom previously served as the priest in charge of Christ the king Parish, Embakasi, while Kamomoe was in charge of the Holy Family Minor Basilica, for his part, said he was grateful to God for giving him this grave. With a heart full of gratitude, he agree to serve in great role.
