Drama Unfolds At Murang’a Funeral As Mourners Disrupt Kindiki And Moses Kuria’s Speeches

Mourners at the funeral of former Member of County Assembly (MCA) Mark Gicheru in Murang’a disrupted the reading of Deputy President Kithure Kindiki’s speech, causing a brief commotion during the ceremony.

Governor Irungu Kang’ata had introduced a man to read DP Kindiki’s speech and convey his condolences to the grieving family.

However, as the man began, the mourners heckled him, voicing their objections.

The preacher overseeing the service had to step in, urging the man to hand over the microphone as a sign of respect to the family.

Following the interruption, Governor Kang’ata also decided not to proceed with reading the speech on behalf of President William Ruto.

Instead, he handed it directly to the family, a move that was met with applause from the crowd.

In another incident, Moses Kuria, President Ruto’s economic advisor, was also interrupted while delivering his remarks.

As he started by expressing his condolences to the family, the crowd began singing, forcing him to cut short his speech.

Kuria had started to delve into politics, making a remark in Kikuyu about the impeachment of Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

He stated, “Those who voted yes or no should not be victimized as everyone was exercising his right,” before being interrupted.

He continued with a proverb, saying, “A wise woman does not run away from her home during the harvest, she runs away during the planting season…”

However, he was cut off again as the mood in the crowd shifted.

Before leaving the podium, Kuria attempted to wrap up, adding, “As you cry, it is my chance to laugh at you because your chance to laugh at me is gone.

But as it is, we can’t keep looking back at where we have come from.

We need to plan ahead and listen to those with more knowledge than us.”

Mark Gicheru, a nominated MCA, passed away on November 13, 2024, at Karen Hospital after battling a severe pulmonary disease that led to lung failure.

Prior to his death, Governor Kang’ata had announced plans for a fundraiser to help cover the MCA’s medical expenses.
