Police in Eldoret have successfully recovered 59 motorcycles and 35 engine parts that were stolen from boda boda operators in Uasin Gishu and nearby areas.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander Benjamin Mwanthi made the announcement during a press briefing held at Eldoret Central Police Station.
He credited the recovery to information provided by vigilant members of the public, which led them to garages in Kapsoya where the stolen items were found.
Four suspects have been arrested in connection with the thefts.
Among them are the owner of the garage, a marketer, and one suspected thief. They are currently in police custody and will soon appear in court to face legal proceedings.
Mwanthi disclosed that the thieves typically disable the tracking devices installed on the stolen motorcycles and alter their chassis numbers and other identifying parts.
This modus operandi makes it challenging to trace the stolen items and enables the perpetrators to sell them to unsuspecting buyers.
The recovery of these motorcycles and engine parts marks a significant milestone in the ongoing efforts to combat motorcycle theft in the region.
Law enforcement authorities underscored the importance of public cooperation, urging residents to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious activities to prevent such crimes in the future.
