The Independent Policing Oversight Authority is investigating the death of Collins Ndombi, 25, which occurred at Kambi Mwanza on Kakamega – Webuye Road, Monday, November 7, 2022.
This was during an attempt to safe a suspect who was being lynched by a mob.
IPOA said Kakamega North Sub-County police command notified the Authority of the incident and on the onset, a Rapid Response team was dispatched to the scene.
Preliminary enquiry established the fatality, and as part of the investigation, reconstructed the scene of the incident and interviewed police officers.
The team also visited Malava Sub-County hospital and established that three persons, including a police officer were treated at the health facility for various injuries.
On Wednesday, November 9, investigators visited Kabras Police Station with the aim of acquiring more information and documentation which would aid the speedy conclusion of the investigation.
Until then, IPOA calls on residents of the area to keep calm and await the outcome of the investigation.
“IPOA empathizes with the families, friends and all those grieved by Ndombi’s death and assures them that our efforts will ensure that justice prevails,” said chairperson Anne Makori.
