In a poignant ceremony, Lucy Wambui Ng’ang’a was laid to rest on Tuesday at her home in Redhill, Kiambu County, after her life was tragically cut short by a botched plastic surgery procedure performed by Body by Design.
Her body arrived at the family home in Ndenderu, amidst an atmosphere of profound sorrow and mourning.
The family is left grappling with unanswered questions regarding how their beloved Lucy came to be in the hands of operators whose negligence resulted in her untimely death.
“I just pray that she is in an amazing place; I just wish the best for her,” expressed her son, James Macharia Ng’ang’a.
Lucy’s four children and their father, overwhelmed with grief, struggled to find words as close friends stepped in to share fond memories, highlighting her generous spirit and kindness.
Friends, including former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko, condemned the negligence that led to her tragic passing.
These leaders voiced their outrage and committed to advocating for justice on behalf of Lucy’s family, especially as Body by Design filed a petition to prevent the closure of its premises by the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council (KMPDC).
“As we lay Lucy to rest, we urge the authorities overseeing medical facilities to safeguard the public.
Many places market themselves attractively, leading individuals to trust them.
Unfortunately, they often end up in unlicensed and unprofessional settings.
I urge everyone to exercise caution when seeking medical assistance,” said Gachagua.
Lucy passed away last Thursday after seeking cosmetic services at Body by Design, which falsely presented itself as a health clinic.
However, government records classified it as a beauty spa, which has since been shut down by authorities.
In the wake of this tragedy, the family is calling on other victims of Body by Design or Omnicare Medical Ltd to come forward.
They hope to gather sufficient evidence to seek justice for all affected families.
“What we are experiencing is incredibly unfortunate, and I urge anyone who has endured a similar situation to please come forward,” said Brian Ng’ang’a, Lucy’s eldest son.
Body by Design’s attempt to halt its closure through a court petition was denied.
