National Irrigation Authority Appoints Charles Mutinda Muasya As New CEO


The National Irrigation Authority (NIA) has named Charles Mutinda Muasya as its Chief Executive Officer, following a thorough selection process.

The announcement was made in a letter dated November 28, addressed to the Head of Public Service, Felix Koskes, and subsequently seen by Eagle News Feed.

The appointment of Charles Mutinda Muasya comes after a competitive interview process that featured several candidates, including Nesline Ogwe and Joel Tanui.

Despite emerging as the second candidate in the selection, the NIA Board decided to appoint Mutinda, citing his exceptional technical background and extensive professional experience.

“In view of the above, and in further of circular nos. OP/CAB.9/1A dated November 25, 2022 and April 3, 2023 respectively, and based on the year of experience and technical background, concurrence is hereby sought for the appointment of Eng. Charles Mutinda Muasya,” the letter reads.

His tenure as CEO is expected to commence at a crucial time, coinciding with the challenges posed by the El Niño weather phenomenon currently affecting the country.

Kenya Kwanza’s emphasis on agricultural productivity and efforts to lower fertilizer prices to support production aligns with the responsibilities that Charles Mutinda Muasya will assume in his new role.

The NIA’s role in national irrigation and agricultural development is pivotal, and Mutinda’s leadership is anticipated to contribute to the sector’s growth.

In a gazette notice dated May 18 announced the revocation of Eng. Joshua Toro’s appointment as the chairperson of the National Irrigation Authority Board.

The position will now be filled by Eng. Gilbert Maluki, reflecting broader changes within the organization aimed at fostering efficiency and advancing its mandate.
