Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua is scheduled to visit Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri County following a tragic fire incident that occurred on Friday.
He is expected to arrive at the school around midday to offer his condolences and support to both students and their families in the wake of the disaster.
In a statement released on Friday, Gachagua expressed his sorrow over the loss of 17 students in the fire and extended his wishes for a swift recovery to those injured.
He emphasized the need for schools to adhere to safety and security regulations as outlined by the Ministry of Education and other relevant agencies to prevent such incidents in the future.
“I am deeply saddened by the tragic loss of the pupils at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Kieni Constituency, Nyeri County.
We stand with the families, the school community, and the nation in mourning these young lives,” said Gachagua.
He also prayed for the recovery of the survivors and strength for the grieving families.
The fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy, which occurred on Friday night, resulted in the deaths of 17 pupils.
National Police Service Spokesperson Resila Onyango confirmed the incident, noting that 14 other students were injured.
One of the dormitories was destroyed in the blaze.
The scene has been secured for investigation by the homicide team, and emergency response teams have been deployed to assist.
