Two individuals tragically lost their lives in a collision involving a bus and a motorcycle at the intersection of Arwings Kodhek and Oledume Road in Nairobi.
The deceased, a bodaboda rider and his female passenger, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The accident occurred around 8 a.m. and immediately caused severe traffic disruptions on both Arwings Kodhek Road and the surrounding streets.
According to police reports, the bus, end route from Kawangware to Nairobi’s city center, suffered brake failure.
This mechanical failure led the bus to crash into the motorcycle before veering off course and slamming into the roadside.
The violent impact resulted in fatal injuries to the rider and his passenger.
Their remains have been transported to the mortuary for autopsy, and the bus involved has been towed to Kilimani Police Station for a detailed investigation.
This accident highlights ongoing concerns regarding the condition of buses operating on Nairobi’s roads.
Authorities have previously raised alarms about the frequent breakdowns of buses on this route, which often lead to significant traffic congestion and road safety issues.
In response to these concerns, a comprehensive inspection campaign is set to be launched, aimed at ensuring that buses meet necessary safety standards to prevent future accidents.
The situation was further complicated by a traffic blockade on Gitanga Road, where police were executing an eviction order related to a contentious plot owned by the family of a former politician.
This eviction, which has been the subject of ongoing disputes, led to additional traffic delays and compounded the chaos caused by the bus crash.
Residents and commuters have expressed frustration over the traffic disruptions, which have been exacerbated by the dual impact of the bus accident and the eviction-related blockade.
Efforts are underway to manage the traffic flow and address the immediate needs of those affected by the accident, while long-term solutions to improve road safety and manage disputes are being discussed.
