The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has recovered assets worth Sh60.24 billion in the last four years.
EACC through a report released on March 2023 indicated that it was able to recover assets worth Sh23.74 billion that were surrendered back for public benefit.
The commission also averted a loss of approximately Sh36.5 billion through proactive investigation and disruption of corruption networks.
The report which was compiled from 2018 to 2022 shows that the commission is pursuing forfeiture of corruptly acquired assets worth approximately Sh40.78 billion in various courts across the country.
So far the report indicates that the EACC has concluded 655 investigations on corruption and related offenses in the four financial years.
Out of 655 251 cases were finalized in court.
Kenya, through former President Uhuru Kenyatta, intensified the fight against corruption that had mapped it among the top 100 globally.
Thanks to Kenyatta’s effort as the country was not listed among the top 100 corrupt countries this year.
The report also indicated that over 70 ministries, departments, and agencies have been reviewed. 27 counties have undergone a thorough risk assessment.
136 public entities and state officers were approved in the last four years as 1,342 public officers were allowed to operate banks outside the country.
Further, EACC approved 74,864 candidates for public appointment.
However, the politicization of the fight against corruption and unethical conduct remains a giant threat to the commission.
