Renowned former presidential candidate Reuben Kigame has launched a scathing critique against President William Ruto and his deputy Rigathi Gachagua, accusing them of espousing national unity while perpetuating actions that sow division within the country.
Addressing viewers on Citizen TV’s Daybreak program, Kigame pulled no punches in condemning the behavior of the two leaders, asserting that their conduct has exacerbated existing divisions among Kenyans.
He emphasized that the onus of proving commitment to national unity lies squarely on Ruto and Gachagua, challenging them to first demonstrate unity among themselves before urging the nation to follow suit.
Kigame lambasted what he perceived as the duo’s engagement in tribal politics, citing instances of favoritism based on ethnicity, particularly in Ruto’s appointments, as evidence of hypocrisy in their calls for national cohesion.
Expressing skepticism about the recent speculation surrounding a purported rift between Ruto and Gachagua, Kigame suggested that such narratives serve as distractions from pressing issues plaguing Kenyan society.
He emphasized the urgent need to address the plight of ordinary citizens, highlighting concerns such as evictions, demolitions, and the contentious Finance Bill.
Accusing the political elite of fanning ethnic tensions for their own gain, Kigame underscored the detrimental impact of such divisive tactics on the fabric of Kenyan society.
In addition to his criticism of Ruto’s perceived lack of transparency regarding travel expenses, particularly pertaining to the chartering of private jets during official visits, Kigame called attention to what he described as excessive and extravagant spending at the expense of taxpayers.
He questioned the discrepancy between Ruto’s rhetoric advocating for fiscal responsibility and his lavish travel habits.
Turning his scrutiny towards the legislative arena, Kigame chastised Members of Parliament for their failure to ensure broader citizen participation in the legislative process, particularly concerning the Finance Bill.
He highlighted the exclusion of marginalized groups, such as individuals with disabilities, due to inaccessible formats of the bill, urging MPs to take proactive measures to engage their constituents and solicit their input on critical legislative matters.
In issuing this impassioned plea for accountability and inclusivity, Kigame challenged the political establishment to prioritize the needs and concerns of ordinary Kenyans above all else.
