Ruto Confirms Bomas International Convention Complex on Track for April 2026 Completion

President William Ruto has provided an update on the Bomas International Convention Complex, reporting steady progress and confirming its expected completion by April 2026.

In a statement on Monday, December 22, he noted that construction is proceeding as scheduled, with up to 3,000 workers on site daily to meet international standards. “The Bomas International Convention Complex is being built around the clock to ensure completion by April 2026. It is designed to meet global conference standards and position Kenya as a premier African conference destination,” Ruto said.

He added that the facility has already secured bookings for major events, including the France Africa Summit on 12 May 2026, demonstrating its appeal to international stakeholders even before completion.

The update follows earlier claims by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua that Bomas of Kenya had been sold to a Turkish national. Culture, Arts and Heritage Principal Secretary Ummi Bashir refuted the allegations in March, confirming that the site remains under government ownership. She clarified that the development of the convention complex was approved by Cabinet on 8 August 2023 and is part of a long-term plan to refurbish and upgrade the existing facilities, which has been under consideration for over a decade.

Bashir reaffirmed that Bomas of Kenya will continue to be held in trust by the government for the Kenyan people and that its ownership will not change.

Gachagua had previously claimed the government approved the sale of the heritage site, insisting he opposed the move. The State Department maintains that the facility remains a national asset.
