A 16-year-old student died after being electrocuted in Siaya County’s Bondo Sub-county.
According to police at Got Matar Police Patrol Base, the incident occurred on Tuesday at around 1:00 p.m. in Aduwa Village.
The deceased, a Grade 10 student at Bondo Township and a resident of Maranda area, was reportedly pruning a tree near a high-voltage power line when a branch fell onto the live line.
Police said the contact triggered an electric current that fatally electrocuted the boy on the spot.
The body was later moved to Bondo Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have urged members of the public to exercise caution when working near electricity lines to avoid similar tragedies.
Elsewhere, police in Busia County are investigating a drowning incident after the body of a 74-year-old woman was recovered from Malakisi River in Teso North Sub-county.
According to police, the incident was reported on Tuesday morning at around 8:30 a.m. at Ochur Village.
The deceased, identified as Mary Emachar, had reportedly gone missing on the night of April 12, 2026.
Efforts by family members and residents to trace her whereabouts were unsuccessful until April 14, when her body was spotted floating in the river.
Police visited the scene and confirmed the incident.
The body, which had no visible physical injuries, was retrieved with the help of members of the public before the scene was processed and documented.
It was later moved to Teso North Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it awaits a post-mortem examination to establish the exact cause of death.
Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
And police in Kericho County are investigating a drowning incident in which a 42-year-old man lost his life at Kedowa River in Londiani Sub-County.
According to police, the incident occurred on April 14 at around 11:00 a.m.
The deceased, identified as Nicholas Kiprotich Ngetich, reportedly went to bathe in the river when he drowned under unclear circumstances.
He was rescued and rushed to Lotus Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
Police officers later moved the body to Londiani Sub-County Hospital mortuary, where it is being preserved pending a post-mortem examination.
Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution when using rivers and other water bodies, especially during risky conditions.
