More than 800,000 Kenyans have now registered on the government’s Boma Yangu website, a dedicated platform designed to facilitate access to affordable housing across the country.
Data released at the end of June 2025 highlights a surge in public interest, underscoring growing enthusiasm for homeownership under the Government’s Affordable Housing Programme (AHP).
The Boma Yangu portal (www.bomayangu.go.ke) allows users to register, select preferred housing units, and save towards owning their homes.
This innovative platform supports the government’s ambitious Housing Agenda aimed at providing decent, affordable homes to Kenyans from all walks of life.
According to figures from the Affordable Housing Board (AHB), construction of over 140,000 housing units is currently underway in 44 of Kenya’s 47 counties.
To date, 3,171 homes have been completed with an additional 11,000 units nearing completion a clear indication that the program is making steady progress nationwide.
Speaking at a recent Diaspora Stakeholder Meeting in Nairobi, Principal Secretary for the State Department of Housing and Urban Development, Charles Hinga, reiterated the government’s unwavering commitment to the initiative.
“This is not just about housing; it is about building dignity, providing opportunities, and enhancing national development. I urge all Kenyans to embrace this initiative and take the first step toward owning a decent, affordable home through Boma Yangu,” Hinga said.
Beyond home construction, the AHP has created over 250,000 jobs, spanning both formal and informal sectors.
The government has allocated Sh 11 billion to support MSMEs and Jua Kali artisans who play a vital role in the construction process, further stimulating local economic growth.
The program also prioritizes housing for uniformed forces, with plans to build 42,000 units for members of the Kenya Police, Kenya Defence Forces, and Kenya Prisons Service.
Additionally, a proposal to construct 177,000 student housing units is currently in the procurement phase, signaling the government’s dedication to addressing housing needs for all demographic groups.
As construction advances, the government continues to encourage more Kenyans to register on the Boma Yangu platform and seize the opportunity to own a home a key step toward fulfilling the vision of affordable housing for all.
