On Monday, three workers from the Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) were brought to court for allegedly stealing fuel from the KPC Kisumu terminal.
The fuel they are accused of stealing is worth Ksh.2.4 million.
The three individuals involved in this case are Reuben Andolo Aseneka, Joseph Mbugua Mwai, and Mutai Micah.
They were charged with conspiring to steal 13,852 liters of premium motor spirit, also known as petrol, which was in the custody of KPC but belonged to various oil marketing companies.
When they appeared before Kisumu Chief Magistrate Dickson Onyango, all three pleaded not guilty to the charges brought against them.
The prosecution argued against granting them bail, stating that their actions amounted to economic sabotage and should be punishable by law.
In his decision, the chief magistrate acknowledged that the right to bail is a fundamental right for every individual, although not absolute.
He granted them bail on the condition that they each provide a bond of Ksh.500,000 and a surety of the same amount.
The case is scheduled for pre-trial mention on October 3rd.
