Three suspected phone snatchers met their demise on Wednesday morning as police officers engaged them in a shootout along Lusaka Road in Nairobi.
The trio was intercepted by security personnel while in the act of robbing phones and other valuables from individuals heading to work in the Industrial area.
According to Judy Kola, the Makadara Sub-county police boss, the suspects, who were riding on a motorcycle, had been causing trouble in the area for some time.
Concerned by their activities, law enforcement officials decided to set up an ambush to apprehend them.
During the confrontation, the police managed to recover a Ceska gun and several rounds of ammunition from the suspects.
Kola further revealed that just two days prior, the same individuals had robbed an Indian national of Ksh.12,000 and a gold chain before fleeing into the Mukuru slums.
Following the shootout, authorities processed the scene and transferred the bodies of the deceased suspects to the city mortuary for further investigation.
This incident highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to curb crime, particularly in areas prone to theft and robbery.
The swift action taken by the police demonstrates their commitment to ensuring the safety and security of residents and workers in Nairobi.
While incidents like these are unfortunate, they serve as a reminder of the dangers posed by criminal activities and the importance of vigilance and cooperation between the public and law enforcement authorities in combating crime.
The successful operation by the police to apprehend these suspects sends a strong message to would-be criminals that their actions will not go unpunished.
However, it also underscores the need for continued efforts to address the root causes of crime and improve security measures to prevent such incidents from occurring in the future.
