Voi town was thrown into chaos early Tuesday morning when an unidentified man climbed a tall mobile phone booster mast in the heart of the central business district and refused to come down, despite repeated pleas from witnesses and police.
Locals quickly dubbed him the “Voi Boosterman” after he was first spotted around 6 a.m., having apparently scaled the mast during the night.
His continued ascent raised alarm among onlookers, who feared he might attempt to jump.
As tensions escalated, fire engines from the Taita Taveta County arrived on the scene, accompanied by a team of fire marshals who immediately began strategizing a safe rescue operation.
Meanwhile, concerned residents and authorities continuously urged the man to descend voluntarily.
After a period of intense anxiety, the Taita Taveta fire department successfully rescued the man.
He was then taken into custody for questioning at the Voi Police Station.
Authorities are now investigating the motive behind his dramatic act.
