One Person Killed In Terror Attack In Lamu

One person was Wednesday morning killed following a suspected terrorist attack at Widho village in Lamu County.

At least three houses were burnt in the incident that happened in the same area where five other people were slaughtered and shot dead last month.

Lamu County Commissioner Louise Rono said that the attack took place after the suspected al-Shabaab militants attacked the village adjacent to Juhudi primary school.

He said they burnt three houses in the attack.

The attackers had stormed Juhudi primary school, which is being used by locals as a camp because of increased terror attacks in the past month that have forced residents to flee their homes.

But they changed their route and attacked homes there after getting resistance from security officials.

However, police officers alongside National Police Reservists engaged the terrorists who retreated to Boni forest,” he said.

There are fears the gang plans more serious attacks in the area.

Dozens of locals are camping at the school as Internally Displaced Persons following increased attacks in the area.

This is despite increased police operations targeting terror cells.

The terrorists are hiding in the nearby Boni Forest which stretches to Somalia.

They usually breach the main Kenya-Somalia border and launch attacks targeting security officials and nonlocals in Lamu, Garissa, Wajir, and Mandera Counties.

Up to 30 people have in the past month been killed in such attacks.
