Police and Kenya Revenue Authority officials arrested a Chinese national at the Namanga border as he tried to escape to Tanzania.

The officials said Chen Zuwei was trying to escape when he was nabbed on July 26 at about 1 pm.

A check on his account showed he had been served with tax demands hence the move to use the Kenya-Tanzania border to leave for an

unknown destination.

He was later escorted to Nairobi and detained ahead of arraignment.

The suspect is held for the offense of failure to pay taxes contrary to section 95 as read with section 104(1) of the Tax Procedure Act of 2015, officials said.

It is not clear how much he owes the government for now. The taxman said they are investigating dozens of other people over similar issues.
