The Kenya Medical Practitioners Pharmacists and Dentists’ Union (KMPDU) has announced plans for a peaceful demonstration aimed at urging the government to address their grievances promptly.
Scheduled for Thursday, March 21, 2024, starting at 9:00 am, the procession seeks to highlight the challenges faced by Kenyan doctors as outlined in the industrial action notice.
In a statement released by KMPDU Secretary General Dr. Davji Atellah, it was stated, “We are organizing a peaceful procession to address the Ministry of Health’s disregard for the concerns affecting Kenyan doctors.”
The demonstration route includes Kenyatta National Hospital, Ngong Road, the Ministry of Health, Parliament, the National Treasury, and the Council of Governors in Westlands.

In emphasizing the importance of maintaining order and ensuring safety during the event, the notice further stated, “We kindly request your assistance in providing security.”
The cooperation and support of the authorities in facilitating a peaceful and orderly demonstration are greatly appreciated.
This announcement comes amidst an ongoing strike by doctors nationwide, leading to the disruption of services in public hospitals.
The demands of the medical professionals include the posting of medical interns, release of allocated funds for intern deployment, and payment of post-graduate fees.
Dr. Atellah’s involvement in a previous demonstration in February resulted in injury when he was struck by a teargas canister thrown by the police in Nairobi.
Subsequently, the doctors called for the closure of all public hospitals in protest against the attack, which garnered widespread condemnation towards law enforcement.
The forthcoming demonstration serves as a call to action for the government to address the concerns of healthcare professionals promptly while ensuring their safety and security during peaceful protests.
