Murkomen Confirms Kwale Stadium Is Ready To Host Mashujaa Day Celebrations

Sports Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has expressed his satisfaction with the progress of Kwale Stadium, which is nearing completion and set to host the 2024 national Mashujaa Day celebrations.

Murkomen emphasized that the stadium’s readiness is a significant achievement in the government’s ongoing efforts to decentralize sports infrastructure and ensure equitable access across the country.

Contractors are currently working against the clock to finalize several transformative projects in the coastal county, including the new multimillion-shilling stadium, a new county state lodge, and various affordable housing initiatives.

The Kenya Affordable Housing Programme will also be highlighted during the Mashujaa Day event, showcasing the government’s efforts to meet citizens’ housing needs and stimulate economic growth.

As the nation prepares for the 61st Mashujaa Day celebrations, Murkomen assured that the new stadium project would be completed successfully in the days leading up to the national festivities.

He noted that the facility is being built to high standards and will be capable of hosting both national and international sports events, thereby promoting the growth of sports in Kwale County and the surrounding region.

During his inspection of the 10,000-seater arena in Kwale town, Murkomen expressed gratitude to the local leadership for their collaboration with the national government to ensure the event’s success.

The stadium will feature a football pitch, running track, basketball court, and facilities for various other sports.

Murkomen reiterated the government’s commitment to addressing the historical neglect of sports infrastructure in the Coast, Eastern, and North Eastern regions.

“The coastal region has immense potential for a diverse range of sports, particularly water sports, but has often been overlooked in terms of infrastructure.

We are taking deliberate steps to rectify this through projects like Kwale Stadium and the establishment of sports academies,” he stated.

He added that the completion of Kwale Stadium is anticipated to have a transformative impact on sports in the county and its surroundings.
