The government of Zimbabwe is taking steps to control a cholera outbreak that has caused over 100 deaths.
They are doing this by putting rules in place to keep people safe.
Here’s what they’re doing:
Limiting Gatherings:
In areas where the outbreak is happening, they won’t allow large groups of people to meet.
This is to stop the disease from spreading.
Funeral Changes:
At funerals, they’re making some changes.
People can’t shake hands or share food.
This is because the disease can spread when people touch each other or eat together.
The health ministry reported that out of 4,600 suspected cases, 905 were confirmed as cholera
This is a serious problem.
Cholera is not new to Zimbabwe.
In the past, in 2008 and 2009, a big outbreak killed over 4,200 people and made almost 100,000 others sick.
Why does this keep happening? The United Nations says it’s because the country has issues with sanitation (keeping things clean), water supply, sewer problems, and garbage management.
These problems are getting worse as more people move to cities.
